I am a lifelong resident of LaPorte County. A 10 year LaPorte County 4H member and continue to actively support 4H. I am a graduate of Ball State University. Married for 16 years to my wife Jami (Van Slyke) formerly of Michigan City and the father of 2 daughters, Riley and Ryin.

I have been a member of the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office since 1994. I started my career in law enforcement in 1994 hired as a jail deputy. Graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1998 and was hired by former LaPorte County Sheriff Bob Blair as a merit deputy. In 2000 I was assigned to the Detective Bureau where I worked for 11 years. During this time I was appointed to the Juvenile Advisory Board. In 2011 I was promoted to Sergeant where I currently supervise the midnight shift.

I am a firearms instructor for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, IN as well as at the LaPorte County's Sheriff's Office. I am a 10 year member of the Govenor's Top Twenty in the IPFTA and a 9 year participant in the National Police Shooting Championships. I have volunteered since 2006 for the LaPorte Community School Corporation at Kingsbury School discussing safety issues in my daughter's classrooms. I am a member of Moose lodge 492. I am also a member of the Michigan City FOP Dunes Lodge 75. I was recently nominated "Policeman of the Year" by the VFW Post 9423 in November 2013. I will be starting my 20th year of service with the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office December 2013.
